Irina-Camelia Begu v Karolina Muchova Head to Head
Begu leads the rivalry 2-0; she won against Muchova at the French Open in 2019 and in Madrid this year.

Begu Breezes Past Errani
World no. 27 Irina-Camelia Begu made it to the third round of the French Open with a straight sets drubbing of 2012 finalist Sara Errani in the round of 64 on Wednesday.
Begu, who is making her 12th appearance at the French Open, has gone past the second round for the sixth time. Her best in Roland Garros, however include two last 16 finishes in 2016 and 2022.
The Romanian came into this year’s French Open in good form and she will be hoping to go as deep as she can in the tournament. She had started the tournament with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Hungary’s Anna Bondár in the first round and followed it up with another convincing win in the second round against Errani.
The first set saw Begu race to a 3-0 lead with a double break, but Errani found her way back to draw level at 3-3. However, the Romanian quickly checked Errani’s sudden surge and dominated the match from that point on winning nine consecutive games to take the match 6-3, 6-0.
She was outstanding in the second set, dropping just seven points on her serve and five points on return to oust the world no. 73.
Begu improved to 7-3 on clay following the two wins in Roland Garros. Can she improve that record in round 3?

Muchova Holds Off Podoroska
World no. 43 Karolina Muchova held off a valiant comeback bid from 2020 semifinalist Nadia Podoroska to move into the third round.
The 26-year-old Czech, who is making her fifth appearance in Roland Garros, will be playing in the third round for the third consecutive year. She has never gone past this stage, but given her recent surge, she would be aiming to make a round of 16 debut this year.
Muchova had begun her campaign by upsetting the eighth seed and 2021 semifinalist Maria Sakkari 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 in a two-hour-and-seven-minute contest.
The Czech next defeated Podoroska 6-3, 0-6, 6-3 in an hour and 55 minutes on Wednesday. Both players converted four break points each, but it was Muchova who won the key moments in the match, despite being bagelled in the second set. Muchova struck as many as 33 winners in the match, 20 more than her opponent.
The win improved Muchova to 21-7 across levels this and 6-2 on clay.
Begu v Muchova Prediction and Tip
It’s a tough one to call. Muchova has lost both her previous meetings against Begu, which includes a defeat in Madrid in April. But, despite those defeats, Muchova will come into this contest with a lot of belief, having beaten Sakkari in the first round. Expect a close three setter with Muchova edging past the Romanian into her first round of 16 in the clay court major.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Muchova to win: 4/6
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 5/6
