Rybakina Blasts Past Noskova

Linda Noskova has shown what she is capable of this season having also broken into the top 50 for the first time in her career. Against Rybakina in the second round of this French Open, however, she failed to do too much of note and crashed out in straight sets.

Rybakina had noted earlier that at her best she isn’t afraid of playing against anyone and it looked like she means business even on a surface which isn’t her most preferred.

The Kazakh was on court for an hour and 28 minutes as she came away a 6-3, 6-3 winner having saved all four of the break-points she faced. And armed with 30 winners, she also broke her opponent three times to ease her way through.

With a first round win over Brenda Fruhvirtova having come in a similar fashion – Rybakina had lost six games there too – the world number four has given enough evidence of having risen to the kind of levels that one needs to win a major on clay.

She would be one to beat for most players, Sorribes Tormo included.

Sorribes Tormo Goes Past Martic

Rather interesting, despite being ranked nearly 100 places behind her, Sorribes Tormo had gone into her second round match against Petra Martic as a bit of a favourite. And she lived up to those odds in fine style, winning in straight sets to carve out her first appearance in the third round at the French Open.

Sorribes Tormo won 6-4, 6-1 in a match lasting an hour and a half, with a whopping 12 breaks punctuating the encounter.

While Sorribes Tormo lost her own serve four times, she also overcome her opponent’s service on eight occasions including four in the first set where Martic had taken a 2-0 lead and was then serving to go 5-4 up at another stage.

The second set was a lot easier for Sorribes Tormo who broke her opponent four times to find herself a place in round three.

She will need to do a lot better with her serving if she wants to get close to troubling Rybakina.
