Schmiedlova Blasts Bolsova Away
Having come off one of the biggest shocks of the tournament so far in the first round when she defeated Veronika Kudermetova, Schmiedlova did not waste a lot more time in her second round win either.
The Slovak, who is ranked 100th in the world at the moment, overcame Aliona Bolsova in an hour and 46 minutes, winning 6-3, 6-4 in the second round.
Schmiedlova had her issues with her serves, losing it three times in the process but she managed to stave off the Bolsova challenge by breaking her five times.
At one point in the first set, Schmiedlova looked to have frittered away a 4-0 lead as her opponent broke back twice to level the proceedings. Schmiedlova retaliated with another break and served it out soon after.
In the second, the duo exchanged breaks of serves to get to 3-3 before Schmiedlova broke again in the seventh game. She came through without any issues after that.
Schmiedlova will now aim for her first ever chance to make the fourth round at French Open.

Day Turns in the Key
Coming up against the 1/4 favourite Madison Keys, Day was expected to not do too much of note. Probably a fight in a short phase but that’s about it.
Instead, Day managed to come through and shock the world number 20 in three sets to progress to the third round after having made it through to the main draw as a qualifier.
Day was on court for two hours and 27 minutes to stun Keys 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 and make round three.
After having registered an easy win over Kristina Mladenovic in the first round, Day doubled her win court at the highest level in a match that had a whopping 16 breaks of serves. That’s 16 out of 28 games that were on show, making it one of the highest percentages of games in a match where the serve was not held.
It was in the final set that Day went two breaks ahead and while Keys pulled one back, her opponent clinched the match by serving it out to love.
