First Time in Third Round for Nishioka

Nishioka endured his own five set battle in the first round, coming from two sets down to beat the American JJ Wolf. When he dropped the first set of his second round match to Max Purcell of Australia, he must have experienced a feeling of déjà vu.

This time Nishioka did not wait so long to mount his comeback, however, with two breaks of serve in the second set enabling him to level the match.

And, in a third set where serve dominated, it was he who came up with the only break to take the lead in the match.

Purcell dropped his serve twice at the start of the fourth set, and, although he recovered one of them, he could not close the deficit. Nishioka was able to close out the match without any undue alarms.

He is into the third round in Paris for the first time.

Medvedev Conqueror Seyboth Wild

Seyboth Wild has already created the biggest upset of this championship so far by knocking out the second seed, Daniil Medvedev in five sets in the first round.

And the qualifier showed it was no flash in the pan by getting past Guido Pella of Argentina in the second round, a man who has had to rely on a Protected Ranking for his place in the main draw this year, after an injury hit past year.

Although Seyboth Wild began by dropping his serve, two successive breaks enabled him to turn things round and take the first set. Pella hit back by getting the batter of three consecutive breaks of serve in the middle of the second set to level the match.

But in a third set which saw both men have break opportunities, it was Seyboth Wild who landed the decisive blow.

It was the same story in the fourth set, and the Brazilian wrapped things up with his second match point.

Nishioka v Seyboth Wild Prediction and Tip

Although Nishioka is the higher ranked player, given what Seyboth Wild has already achieved in Paris it is hard to bet against him. The Brazilian’s Roland Garros dream may continue into a second week.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Seyboth Wild to win: 4/7
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 37.5 games in the match: 5/6
