Sonego Registers Shock Win over Rublev
Sonego was down two sets to love having been bagelled in the second set by Andrey Rublev. It looked like that was going to be the end of his stay in the tournament with Rublev playing the way he had been, winning over 80% of his first serve points over those two sets and in cruise control.
All of a sudden, Sonego started holding his serve better in the third set, facing not a single break-point. Almost as if that confidence rubbed on to his returning too as he broke Rublev in the eighth game of the third and served it out to make it 1-2.
In the fourth Sonego had the early break and while Rublev came back to level it at 3-3, the Italian clinched the set in a tie-breaker. Suddenly we had a match!
The decider turned out to be a hard-fought one with Rublev finding some of his lost mojo but nothing he did managed to dislodge Sonego. The world number 48 saved two break-points and then as Rublev served at 3-4, find a way to get past his service.
A few minutes later he had served out the match to win it in three hours and 45 minutes.
Can he now tackle another Russian?

Khachanov Restricts Kokkinakis’ Stay
Thanasi Kokkinakis had earlier needed five sets to get past Stan Wawrinka in a thriller but the in-form Khachanov ended his journey in the competition with a four-set win.
Khachanov, who was stretched to five sets by Constant Lestienne in the first round and then routed Radu Albot in the second, was on court for three hours and 45 minutes for his four-set win over his Aussie counterpart.
Following on from a fourth round appearance at this tournament last year too, Khachanov made it two in two with a 6-4, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (5) win over Kokkinakis. He was broken three times in the match, including in the very third game of the opening set but Khachanov found a way to claw back each time.
In fact after having lost the third set, Khachanov was 3-5 down and Kokkinakis was soon serving to push the match into a fifth. He broke back and in the tie-breaker that followed, took the initiative by taking a 6-4 lead.
Khachanov wrapped it up soon after to make it the fourth round again.
Khachanov v Sonego Prediction and Tip
This could well turn out to be an interesting match-up but the big question is if Sonego has enough gas left in his tank to make it two in two. We think Khachanov will hold the edge here.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Khachanov to win: 4/6
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 35.5 games in the match: 5/6
