Cori Gauff v Anna Karolina Schmiedlova Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the Madrid Open last season and Gauff had dropped just two games in her win.

Gauff Needs Three Sets against Teenager Andreeva
It’s been quite a magical journey at the highest level for Mirra Andreeva who is a mere 16 years of age and already showing what she is capable of. And for a moment she would have thought she had the chance to make it to the fourth round of this tournament at the expense of Gauff.
Halfway through their third round tie – timewise – Andreeva had grabbed the opening set in a tie-breaker and an upset looked to be looming large.
Gauff had been broken thrice in the first set, missed out a chance to serve it out at 5-4 and while she had saved two match-points in the tie-breaker, she had dropped the tie-breaker to give her young opponent the lead.
That’s where she turned things around though.
Gauff broke Andreeva twice in the second set and a whopping three more times in the third, even as she lost a mere five points on her own serve across those two sets. And while a new star is definitely born in Andreeva, Gauff showed her mettle and that she still possesses the capability to go deep here.

Schmiedlova Makes it Another Straight-Set Win
Upsets are a part of the deal in women’s tennis but players are typically found out in the very next match as they fail to live up to the mighty expectations following an extraordinary performance.
A performance like was on show in the first round from Schmiedlova, who had gone into her match against Veronika Kudermetova as a whopping 6/1 outsider to win the match.
Not only did Schmiedlova crush Kudermetova 6-3, 6-1 to grab that opener, she has followed it up with such easy wins over Aliona Bolsova and Kayla Day, it doesn’t feel right to call her a world number 100. She defeated Day 6-1, 6-3 to come through in her third round match.
The former world number 26 would have already risen to 73rd in the world with these three wins and while a second upset against a player of the calibre of Gauff looks highly unlikely, we could see a nothing-to-lose performance from the Slovak here.
Gauff v Schmiedlova Prediction and Tip
Gauff can be expected to come through in this one in straight sets despite all the resistance that Schmiedlova might exhibit.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Gauff to win in straight sets: 8/15
- Moderate Risk Tip: Under 19.5 games in the match: 5/6
