Iga Swiatek v Cori Gauff Head to Head

This is a repeat of the previous year’s French Open final which had seen Swiatek defeat Gauff 6-1, 6-3. In fact they have also played on five other occasions and Swiatek has won every single time without dropping a set.

Swiatek Easily Through after Tsurenko Retires

A two-time winner here at the French Open, Swiatek was on court for a mere 29 minutes before her fourth round opponent Lesia Tsurenko retired from their encounter.

Swiatek was 5-1 ahead when her opponent opted out, with Tsurenko having earlier needed a doctor to take a look at her after falling 1-4 behind in the contest. She played another game, got broken to love and decided to throw in the towel.

At one stage, the world number one Swiatek was 4-0 up, which meant she had won 23 games in a row including a 6-0, 6-0 win over Xinyu Wang, a bagel in the second set and a win in last game of the first set of her match against Claire Liu.

She now faces an opponent against whom she has played 12 sets and only twice has lost more than three games in a set against her. Swiatek should not have a trouble here again.

Gauff Staves off Schmiedlova Fight

It took Gauff an hour and 31 minutes in the end but she found a way to get past Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in straight sets to find her way to the quarterfinals.

Gauff frittered away a 5-2 lead in the first set but managed to come through 7-5, 6-2 to seal her place in the last eight where she will face an opponent she has never beaten before.

Having defeated Rebeka Masarova and Julia Grabher in straight sets in the first two rounds and then having needed three sets against Mirra Andreeva in the third, Gauff looked to have started off exactly how she had left off in her previous round.

She broke Schmiedlova twice to grab the lead but then dropped her serve twice. A late break in the 11th game of the opening set allowed Gauff to take the lead.

Gauff did drop her serve early in the third set but recovered quickly to break Schmiedlova three times to march into the quarterfinals. She will have to do a lot more here though.

Swiatek v Gauff Prediction and Tip

It’s no surprise that not only is Swiatek a huge favourite to win this but also 1/2 to do that in two sets. Given their record it’s easy to see why it’s tough to bet against that but Gauff can be expected to put up some fight.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Swiatek to win in straight sets: 1/2
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 5/6
