Zverev Blow Dimitrov Out of Court
All it took Zverev was two hours and 19 minutes and he was through to another quarterfinal at the French Open. The German, who had injured himself at the previous season’s French Open, blasted Grigor Dimitrov out in straight sets to raise his hand as a potential challenger to the finals spot.
Zverev faced a whopping 16 break-points in the encounter but miraculously saved 14 of them. Even more bizarre was the fact that all 16 of them came in the second and third sets with Zverev broken once apiece in those two sets.
In fact after having run away with the first set with three breaks of serves, Zverev was down 2-4 in the second at one stage. Dimitrov could have been serving with a double-break at 5-2 too but Zverev saved multiple break-points and then broke his opponent twice to stunningly win the set.
With the wind gone off his sails, Dimitrov was broken early in the third set too and while he managed some sort of a fight to level out at 3-3, that was never going to be enough. Zverev came through 6-1, 6-4, 6-3 to enter the quarterfinals.
He had earlier edged past Frances Tiafoe, Alex Molcan and Lloyd Harris in the previous three rounds.

Etcheverry Makes it Another Win Without a Set Dropped
Before the start of this tournament, Etcheverry had won just one main draw match at a Grand Slam. That had come at the Australian Open earlier this year. At the French Open he hadn’t made it past the qualifiers in 2021 and then stumbled in his opener last year.
This year around, not only has Etcheverry reached the quarterfinal, he has done so without dropping a set so far!
After having benefitted from the withdrawal of Jack Draper in the first round – the Argentine was a set up at that stage though – and then with wins over Alex de Minaur and Borna Coric, it was the turn of Yoshihito Nishioka in the fourth round to bear the brunt.
Nishioka put up a bit of a fight in the first set, pushing it into a tie-breaker where he had a set-point too. He saved two Etcheverry set-points but off the third, the world number 49 came through and from that point onward it was just one-way traffic.
Etcheverry won 7-6 (8), 6-1, 6-0 to seal his berth in the last eight where he faces a huge test.
Zverev v Etcheverry Prediction and Tip
While Zverev is a heavy favourite in this one, we can see Etcheverry put up a fight and even push the German to the brink. Zverev to come through in the end though.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Games Handicap Etcheverry +5.5: 4/5
- Moderate Risk Tip: Zverev to win AND Both players to win a set: 13/10
