Zhu, Hunting Momentum
China’s Lin Zhu, age 29, is set to start in Nottingham after competing in just two tournaments in the last two months.
Following her first-round exit in the Miami Open to Karolina Muchova, she next played in Madrid, where she lost to Rebecca Marino in the opener. That was followed by a similar defeat against Lauren Davis in her Roland Garros opening match. Zhu did not manage to win a single set amidst these losses.
Nonetheless, her record is 13-9 – courtesy of her impressive feats in hard-court events early in the season.
The current World No. 40 reached the fourth round in the Australian Open, won the Hua Hin Championships, and then reached the semis in Monterrey. Lin’s notable victories in these times came against Jil Teichmann and Maria Sakkari.
Whether she can emulate these results on grass is a whole different question. In the last four seasons, her record stands at 3-10 on the surface.

Parks, Enjoying a Good Year
USA’s Alycia Parks is the current World No. 45 – a career-best feat for her.
Her season exploits include her maiden WTA singles trophy at the Lyon Open, where she beat the likes of Petra Martic and Caroline Garcia. In addition, she was a finalist in the Clarins Open doubles too – with Nadiia Kichenok.
Unlike Zhu, Parks has done fairly well to take some of this form forward on clay courts. To her credit, she reached the round of 32 in Madrid (beating Anna Karolina Schmeiedlova and Victoria Azarenka en route) and the quarters in the Rabat Open. However, she fell in the opening round in Rome and Paris.
Last year, Parks was 4-4 on grass – with her best result being her second-round stint in the German Open as a qualifier.
Zhu v Parks Prediction and Tip
Both players are well-matched for this one. Zhu has the experience, while Parks has a lot of momentum (12-14). Expect an intriguing affair that can swing either way.
Tips:
- Low-Risk Tip: Parks to win: 4/5
- Moderate Risk Tip: Three sets in the match: 2/1
