Since winning her maiden – and only – Grand Slam title in 2019, Andreescu has suffered injuries and those have left her with a lot to do to try and come back into the top echelons of tennis stars.
After all of that, she is currently 37th on the WTA charts having won 11 of the 21 matches she’s played this season. She had hit a season high of 27th earlier this year, which was also her career-best ranking since having plumetted to 46th in the world towards the end of the 2021 season.
Andreescu enters the grass swing having made the third round at the French Open and with a strong showing at Bad Homburg on the same surface last season. She had been the finalist there before going down to Caroline Garcia in the title-decider there.
On either side of that performance though, there were second round exits at the Berlin Open and Wimbledon.
She will hope to get herself a deep run here in her first tournament of the season on grass.

Sönmez Makes it Through the Qualifiers
21-year-old from Turkey, Sonmez has never been ranked better than her current 217th and there is a good chance she will improve further by the time the new rankings are out next week thanks to her qualification for this tournament..
A winner of four ITF titles, Sonmez overcame Ekaterina Makarova and Sachia Vickery in the qualifiers to make it through to her maiden main draw match at the highest level for the season.
Having won a title indoors earlier this year, Sonmez had begun her journey on grass last week in Surbiton. Again, needing to qualify to make the main draw, she defeated Priscilla Hon in the first round there before going down in the second.
Here, against Andreescu, things will be a lot more difficult for Sonmez but she can be expected to give a strong fight.

Andreescu starts off a 1/6 favourite but will it be that easy for her? We don’t think so.
