Emina Bektas of the USA is coming off a fine season – especially on grass. While she is currently ranked World No. 186, the rhythm she holds can help her turn that around in the coming weeks.
She is 30-9 at the moment and 7-0 on grass. The 30-year-old skipped the clay swing and focussed only on hard courts and carpet events.
In May, she featured in ITF Kurume – a grass tournament – where she won the second trophy of the season. Earlier in the year, she won ITF Pretoria, made it to the final in Sharm El Sheikh, and the semifinal in a couple of events.
With a season spent largely on the ITF Tour, Bektas will make her WTA debut on Monday in Den Bosch. She beat the qualifiers over the weekend, moving past the likes of Miyu Kato and Ankita Raina.

Galfi Struggling to Win
Dalma Galfi has had a season to forget and must work hard to turn it all around. Her record is now at 11-18; the Hungarian has struggled horribly to win back-to-back matches in a tournament. The last such instance was her quarterfinal result in the Linz Open in February, where she started as a qualifier and won four matches before retiring against Marketa Vondrousova.
The current #98 has also struggled to win against the top 150 players; the last time she beat such an athlete was in the Indian Wells Open when she moved past Danielle Collins.
With a series of first-round losses in the French Open and Makarska Challenger, Galfi will be seeking a resurgence on grass. She has some history to seek inspiration from, considering her round two stints in Wimbledon and the ITF Ilkley title run in 2022.
Galfi v Bektas Prediction and Tip
Galfi will start as the favourite to win on account of her experience – but only by a slim margin. Bektas has a lot more rhythm and can easily cause an early upset and bag her first WTA win of the season. Expect an exciting match.
