Alexander Bublik v David Goffin Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these players and Goffin has won them both. One of them came as recently as the Auckland Open earlier this year in which Goffin came away a straight-set winner.

While Bublik isn’t quite on a downward spiral, the 47th-ranked player was once ranked 30th in the world and is currently on a three-match losing streak.
One can blame it on his performances on clay, with his overall record on dirt not being the best in the business by his own standards either. Losses in the first round at Monte-Carlo, Barcelona, Geneva and French Open made things that much more difficult for the Kazakh.
What makes Bublik’s season even worse is that he did not do too much of note in hardcourt competitions either.
He had started off the year on the back of eight successive defeats before he finally won a match. And while he did make it to the semifinal of the Marseille Open, it was followed by another string of poor form.

Goffin Forced to Play on the Challenger Circuit
As recently as in 2020, Goffin was a top-10 player. Fitness issues followed by form problems have meant he has fallen off the grid and after being ranked 40th in the world as recently as in March this season, his ranking has now plumetted to 126th in the world.
A one-time quarterfinalist at Wimbledon, Goffin was also forced to make it through the qualifiers here to enter the main draw. Not surprisingly, he was taken to three sets by the little known Jesper De Jong in the second qualifying round here.
Overall this season, Goffin has won just five main draw matches. That might not be a big number and that certainly has been reflected on his ranking but Goffin has shown some of his old spark at times.
Like when he won the Challenger title at Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve or when he made the semifinal of the Aix en Provence challenger in more recent times. He is up against a player now who has had his own struggles for form.
