Rinderknech Has Won Just Two Matches on Grass

He is 27 years old and has been around on the circuit for a while now but Rinderknech’s performances on grass haven’t been quite up to the scratch. Not for a player who was once ranked 42nd in the world.

Now ranked 85th, Rinderknech enters this year’s grass court competitions having featured on that surface across only two seasons – 2021 and 2022. And overall, he’s won only two matches on grass.

One of them came at Halle in 2021 where he defeated Yannick Hanfmann and followed it up with a solitary win last season in Stuttgart against Ugo Humbert.

What this means is there’s not much to go by as far as Rinderknech’s grass form goes but having struggled through most part of the season otherwise too, it might not get any easier on a surface he’s not had too much experience.

Rinderknech is 8-13 for the season.

Popyrin Hoping to Live up to Favourites’ Tag

Popyrin enters this match as a 3/5 favourite and that could be down to not just his overall form for the season but also his game which seems suited for grass.

The Aussie hasn’t won a lot of main draw matches on grass before this but had featured in a couple of Challenger competitions on this surface where he had made the semifinal.

Unfortunately for him, he did not start off his campaign on grass too well this year as he fell in his opener at the Surbiton Challenger. Despite starting out as a huge favourite (3/10) against fellow Aussie Luke Saville, he was beaten in a third set tie-breaker despite having chances to grab the second round berth.

That, however, might not have a lot of bearing in a match against a player who has struggled on grass in the past.

Can the 90th-ranked Popyrin make that count?

  • Low Risk Tip: Popyrin to win: 3/5
