Boulter Is a Two-Time Quarterfinalist

Following a semifinal finish in the ITF Surbiton tournament last week, Katie Boulter enters the Nottingham Open as the British no. 1.

Ranked no. 126, Boulter has replaced Emma Raducanu as the top British player. And the 26-year-old holds the position for the first time in her career.

Boulter will be making her fourth appearance in Nottingham. She was a quarterfinalist in 2018 and 2021 and had made it to the round of 16 last year.

She is 23-10 across levels this year and has reached three ITF finals, winning the title in Canberra and finishing runner-up in Gifu and Fukuoka in Japan.

This will be just her third tour level appearance this year after she was knocked out in the first round in Austin and in Hua Hin. But she has got into a rhythm on grass in Surbiton and will be hoping to get her first tour level win of the season in Nottingham.

Now she will aim to pose a similar challenge against Boulter.

Appleton will be making her first main draw appearance on the tour on Tuesday. The 23-year-old rallied from a set down to beat 19-year-old American Katerina Scott 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 in the first qualifying round and then defeated Colombia’s Emiliana Arango 6-1, 6-1 in the second qualifying round on Sunday.

Appleton had received a wild card for the qualifying round and the world no. 420 will be extremely pleased after beating the two players ranked much higher than her.

Can she make an impression on her debut on Tuesday?
