Victoria Azarenka began her campaign in the 2023 Rosmalen Championships with a two-hour marathon against Natalija Kostic. The number three seed took the match 7-6(3), 6-3, but it was not without its challenges.
The former world number one is coming off a bleak clay swing; by the looks of it, she has carried that rust onto the grass as well.
In the French Open most recently, she fell to Bianca Andreescu in round one, while in the Italian Open, she was slated to play Madison Keys in round three but retired due to fitness concerns.
Except for her semifinal showing in the Australian Open back in January, most of Azarenka’s season has gone by in a similar fashion – early to mid-round exits. Her record at the moment stands at 14-10.
Now ranked World No. 19, the 33-year-old has just one grass final in her oeuvre – the 2010 Eastbourne International. Whether she can add to it this week is a difficult question to answer right now.

Krueger Beats Peterson
Ashlyn Krueger, age 19, defeated Sweden’s Rebecca Peterson 6-1, 6-2 in a little under an hour. The American had a phenomenal game, winning 96% of the points behind the first serve and dishing out four aces.
That puts the teenager at 21-15 for the season, ranked World No. 152.
She has spent the season so far building her game and rhythm – predominantly in ITF events. Krueger did enjoy some success there – a couple of semifinal results in Orlando and Irapuato and a runner-up feat in Charlottesville.
In recent weeks, Ashlyn has tried to up the ante a bit; in the French Open, she made it to the final qualifying round before losing to Storm Hunter. Next up was the ITF Surbiton, where she lost in the opener to Sachia Vickery.
Azarenka v Krueger Prediction and Tip
This match is Azarenka’s to lose, but given the shaky season she has had so far, Krueger should feel confident of causing an early upset and thus deliver the biggest win of her career. Vika is not immune by any means; she has already lost to the likes of Anna Kalinskaya, Alycia Parks, and Linda Noskova. There is no reason why Krueger can’t add herself to that list.
