In a battle between Caty and Katie, it was McNally who came away a winner in the first round here at Rosmalen. More importantly, she barely wasted any time in clinching her round of 16 berth.
McNally needed an hour and five minutes in her 6-2, 6-1 victory over Volynets to help her take that step closer to her performance in this tournament last season.
A quarterfinalist at the 2022 Rosmalen Open, McNally did not face a single break-point in the entire match while in turn, she got the better of her opponent’s serve on five occasions from the six chances she got.
This follows McNally’s run to the final at the WTA 125 tournament in Paris in May, following which she was injured and couldn’t participate in the French Open. By the looks of things her fitness issues are behind her.

Naef Overturns Slow Start against Williams
Venus Williams was playing in her second tournament of the season having last featured in January. Not too many had expected her to do much of note and which is also why Naef started off a 1/2 favourite in their opener.
Naef did face some early challenges as Venus came out all guns blazing, reminding those watching what she is still capable of.
She grabbed the first set in 35 minutes and was 4-2 up in the second when Naef kick-started her fightback. The world number 202 broke Venus back in the eighth game and pushed the set into a tie-breaker which she clinched 7-3.
And in the decider, Naef took full toll of Venus’ flagging morale and energy as she broke the American three times to come away a winner.

McNally will be a huge favourite and while Naef has shown she can put up a fight we think this will be a straightforward win for the former.
