It took Kalinina about an hour and a half but she managed to score a win in her first match on grass for the season.
Kalinina clinched a 7-5, 6-3 win against Nuria Parrizas-Diaz despite getting broken four times in an encounter. That is a bit too much on a surface like grass but the saving grace for the Ukrainian player was she retaliated with six breaks of her own.
Parrizas-Diaz had a chance to serve it out in the first set at 5-4 but Kalinina overcame her opponent’s serve twice in a row to turn things around. In the second, she took a 4-0 lead and while she lost her serve once, there was no looking back.
Can she now make it two in two on a surface where her best performance has been a quarterfinal appearance at Eastbourne last year?

Dart Eases Past Marino
Having entered this tournament as a qualifier, Dart continued the form that was on display in the lead-up to the first round as she eased past Rebecca Marino in her opener here.
Dart was a 6-4, 6-2 winner in her first round match that lasted an hour and 16 minutes.
Two early breaks of serves in the first set helped Dart take a 3-0 lead before she was broken back once. That didn’t matter too much as she lost just two further points on her own serve in the set to take the lead.
The second set followed the same script as the first for a while. Dart was 3-0 up, then lost her serve but this time around she broke for the third time and soon after claimed the win.
Dart will hope she can put up a fight after her three successive straight-set wins.
