Liudmila Samsonova v Aliaksandra Sasnovich Head to Head
Samsonova won the only meeting between the two in the final of the Cleveland Open last year. It was a one-sided affair with Samsonova winning 6-1, 6-3.

After surviving a first round scare, world no. 15 Liudmila Samsonova stormed into the quarterfinals with a straight sets drubbing of Russia’s Polina Kudermetova.
After both players traded a break each in the first set, Samsonova got a decisive second break to seal the first set. She then dominated the second set by breaking her opponent thrice to win the second round contest 6-4, 6-1.
In the first round, the 24-year-old Samsonova had come back from 3-5 down in the third set to beat world No. 348 Lena Papadakis in over 3 hours and 40 minutes. Papadakis was playing her second WTA main draw, and first since Nürnberg 2017 and yet she stretched Samsonova to the hilt. Therefore, it was important for the latter to sharpen her game in the second round and she looked much better in the win over Kudermetova.
It is just the second time Samsonova is in the quarterfinal of a tour level tournament in 2023. Earlier she had made it to the final in Abu Dhabi, but her perfect record in the finals ended as she failed to win a fifth title.
Samsonova had a fantastic 2021 season on grass, where she won the title in Berlin and finished in the round of 16 in Wimbledon. Can she build on the 2-0 start this year?

Seventh seed Aliaksandra Sasnovich won back to back matches for the first time in the season as she defeated Belgium’s Greet Minnen in the second round in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
Ranked no. 71st in the world, Sasnovich will be featuring in the quarterfinal for the first time this season.
Sasnovich had begun her challenge with a convincing 6-0, 6-3 win over Lucrezia Stefanini in the first round, but she needed three sets to beat Minnen on Wednesday.
The Belarusian saved 6 of 10 break points and converted 6 of 15 to beat Minnen 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
This will be Sasnovich’s second quarterfinal on grass, she had made it that far in Berlin last year.
Can she reach her first semifinal of the season on Friday?

Samsonova has a better record on grass. The second seed has also been the better player this year and had dominated their only meeting last year. So expect Samsonova to advance to the semifinal.
