At the start of this tournament, Griekspoor was ranked 38th in the world and by reaching the final, his live ranking shows a ranking of 35th. That makes him a rank away from levelling with his previous career-best and on the brink of breaking into the top 30 for the first time in his career.
And that has been possible thanks to some fine performances in this tournament from Griekspoor.
After needing three sets to get past Mikael Ymer, Griekspoor settled in quickly to defeat Australia’s Alexei Popyrin in the second round. And then facing another Aussie, the 4/6 favourite Alex de Minaur, Griekspoor fought tooth and nail for a three-set victory.
In a match lasting an hour and 51 minutes, Griekspoor came back from a set down to seal off his semifinal berth, only the third time he has managed that this season.
Can he now get past Ruusuvuori to enter his second final of the year?

Ruusuvuori was an 11/10 underdog in each of his first two rounds of this competition but had managed to put up a fighting show to come through against Brandon Nakashima and Ugo Humbert. In both those matches, he needed three sets to win.
Not much was expected out of him when he faced Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals. Surely enough he started out at 3/1 odds as well as a result.
What followed, however, was a carnage.
Ruusuvuori did not just win, he managed to decimate his opponent in straight sets and with a lot of fuel left in his tank as well. He won 6-3, 6-4 with no break-points faced and having broken the world number nine on two occasions.
With that kind of confidence under his belt, he will know he can do a good job of it when he takes to court against Griekspoor.
