Our 2023 ATP Halle Open Predictions & Picks
After a week full of upsets in Stuttgart and Den Bosch, the top stars cannot afford to be caught cold in Halle. Just two weeks remain before Wimbledon begins, and the world’s best will be looking to find their groove at this ATP 500 event.
Daniil Medvedev, who fell to a shock three-set loss to Adrian Mannarino in Rosmalen, has now lost back-to-back matches for the first time this season, dealing him a major blow in his preparation for the year’s third Slam.
Unlike last year when the Russian players were banned from competing at Wimbledon, this year Medvedev will be at SW19 after the ban was lifted. So, it’s imperative he gets off to a good start.
If Medvedev gets towards the latter stages, he’ll be a real threat. Last year he made two finals on grass, so it is a surface he’ll easily get his ground game working again and Mannarino isn’t the kindest of draws on grass.
Medvedev wasn’t the only big-name casualty this week. Stefanos Tsitsipas, Jannik Sinner, and Borna Coric all lost early at their respective tournaments they played in. All three are seeded here and have some pedigree on grass.
But perhaps one name that might need a second look is the unseeded Alexander Zverev who could face any of the top eight seeds in the second round. The German stood on the brink of a podium twice in Halle but lost his two finals in 2016 and 2017 respectively. He’ll be a dark horse this time without a doubt.
- Outright Winner Tip: Daniil Medvedev
- Outright Winner Dark Horse Tip: Alexander Zverev
