Boulter Scripts Personal History
It has been a long way for England’s Katie Boulter to reach her first WTA singles final. At the age of 26, she will compete on Sunday in Nottingham to lift her maiden WTA winner’s trophy.
Having started as a wildcard, the current World No. 126 made the most of this opportunity. In the opener rounds, she dismissed Emily Appleton, 6-1, 6-3, and Daria Snigur, 7-5, 6-3. In the quarters, she met Harriet Dart and defeated her 6-3, 7-5. Next up was Heather Watson, whom she defeated in a similar fashion – 6-4, 7-5.
Boulter is now at 26-10 for the year with three finals – all on the ITF Tour – in Canberra, Gifu, and Fukuoka. All in all, she has now 17 finals on the circuit.
Last week, she made it to the semifinal in ITF Surbiton, where she fell to Yanina Wickmayer. Nonetheless, that grass momentum helped her game greatly – the result of which we saw this week.
On the WTA side of things, her best result is reaching the opening round in WTA Austin as a qualifier.

Burrage Makes History Too
It is not just Boulter who will be competing in her first WTA final – Jodie Burrage will join her compatriot on Sunday as she looks to reach a career-high.
Her journey this week has been quite interesting and dramatic. In the first round, she fended a fierce attack from Tereza Martincova, ultimately winning 7-6(5), 3-6, 7-6(4) in three hours. Next, she beat the third seed and current Australian Open semifinalist Magda Linette in straight sets.
Burrage followed that with another three-setter over Linette’s compatriot, Magdalena Frech. In the semifinal, the 24-year-old faced the veteran Frenchwoman Alize Cornet and prevailed 7-5, 7-5.
That puts Burrage at 17-8 for the season, her highlights being a title run in ITF Croissy-Beaubourg and a runner-up silverware in ITF Canberra.
Jodie, now ranked #131, last played in Surbiton, where she fell in the opener to Yuriko Lily Miyazaki. Before that, she reached round two in Saint-Malo Challenger and the second qualifying round in the Madrid Open.
Boulter v Burrage Prediction and Tip
The last time two British ladies featured in a WTA singles final was in 1977 – more than 40 years ago. It was quite something then, and it will be now as both players look to win their first career title on the top tour.
Boulter looks like the favourite to win on account of her slightly superior experience, but that should not stop Burrage from doing what she has done so far. Expect a cracking affair.
Tips:
- Low-Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games: 5/6
- Moderate Risk Tip: Three sets in the match: 2/1
