Holger Rune v Maxime Cressy Head to Head
There have been four previous meetings between these two and Rune leads 3-1. Interestingly Cressy’s only win over Rune came earlier this season on the quick indoor courts of Montpellier.

Rune Coming off French Open Quarterfinal
It’s been a clay court season to remember for Rune and that’s the kind of form he would like to push over on to grass as well.
Rune had a whopping 16-4 win-loss record on that surface in 2023, which included a title win in Munich. He had also made the final at the Rome Masters where he went down to Daniil Medvedev.
Unfortunately for Rune that might not be a guarantee of success on grass because of his prior record on it.
In fact this is just the second season in which Rune will feature on this surface, having taken part in grass-court competitions in only 2022 before this. He had featured in Halle, Eastbourne and at Wimbledon and lost in the first round at every single one of them.
And he kick-starts his campaign here on a surface whose speed might help his opponent a little.

What’s Happening with Cressy?
Cressy looked to be riding a high when he made the final of the Montpellier Open earlier this season. That was the same tournament at which he had registered a win over Rune in the semifinal before Jannik Sinner ended his victorious run.
Since that defeat, however, Cressy looks to have lost the plot a tad.
He made the second round at both, the Rotterdam Open and the Marseille Open but has now lost 10 matches in a row coming into this tournament in London.
Yep, that’s 10 defeats in a row to players ranked at every level and with just four sets pocketed in the process.
Cressy is one of those who like the serve and volley game but as was on display on the grass courts of Rosmalen last week, that wasn’t enough to pull him out of his mire. Despite starting out a 9/20 favourite against Marc-Andrea Huesler in the opener here, he fell in straight sets.
And now he takes on the highly-pedigreed Rune in the first round here. It will need something drastic for Cressy to get going.
Rune v Cressy Prediction and Tip
Rune is a favourite here and while Cressy’s fortunes will turn at some point on grass given his fondness for the quick surface, we will have to back the Danish number one in this one.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Rune to win: 8/15
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 24.5 games in the match: 5/6
