There have been three previous meetings between these two players and de Minaur has won every single time including one at the Laver Cup. This will be their first match on grass.

Having gone into the Rosmalen Open last week as one of the top four seeds to have earned an opening round bye, de Minaur then scraped through to a three-set win over Laslo Djere.

While that scrappy victory against a player who was a 31/10 favourite coming into it could be put down to rustiness, what followed in the next round will point to a bit of a worry for de Minaur.

The Aussie was a favourite yet again against Tallon Griekspoor and went a set up in line with that. Unfortunately for him, he failed to keep up with the momentum and slowly, but steadily, Griekspoor took control of the encounter to register a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over de Minaur.

De Minaur will know he has gotten the better of Murray in the past but never on grass. That is a surface on which Murray has done remarkably well in the past and while it’s not the same opponent from all those years back when he did win a Wimbledon title, de Minaur will have his work cut out here.

Murray Wins Successive Challenger Title

Even as some of the rest of players were prepping their grass court campaign with a tournament at the highest level last week, Murray has been on courts for two weeks now. However, in both those previous two weeks Murray’s been a part of the Challenger circuit and surprise, surprise, he has done well there.

Murray started off his grass season with a title win at the Surbiton Challenger where he overcame Jurij Rodionov in the final.

He followed it up with a victory in Nottingham where he featured in another Challenger tournament last week. What made the win sweeter was he didn’t drop a single set.

The Scottish player now enters Queen’s as a five-time winner at this tournament but also one who was knocked out of the first round here in 2017 and 2018 and the second round in 2021 – his previous three appearances here.

Can he take advantage of de Minaur’s dodgy form on grass?
