Daniil Medvedev v Laslo Djere Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players and both came on clay. The scoreline is 1-1 with Medvedev having won their most recent tie at the 2022 French Open.

Medvedev Eases Past Giron

It took Medvedev a tumble and an hour and 11 minutes but in the end he made it past Marcos Giron in the first round of this tournament to register his first win of the season on grass.

That followed an opening round shock loss at the Rosmalen Open last week where Medvedev had fallen to Adrian Mannarino in the very first match he played.

Here, Medvedev looked more prepared as he overcame Giron 6-4, 6-3 without dropping his serve even once. The Russian had three break-points against him but saved all of them while getting past the Giron serve on three occasions.

With 66% of his service points won, Medvedev held the edge but he would love for that figure to improve as he gets used to grass in the lead-up to Wimbledon. More so because he won just 67% of the first serve points.

He shouldn’t have a lot of trouble against a player more known for his play on clay.

Djere Tames Off-Colour Otte

Oscar Otte has struggled to get going this season and Djere took full toll of the same in their first round encounter on Monday.

Djere needed an hour and 24 minutes and difficulties in breaking past his opponent in the first set before coming through 7-6 (3), 6-3 in his opener.

He saved all the three break-points he faced while edging past his opponent in the first tie-breaker and then converting his only break-point in the second set.

This follows a similar result for Djere last week in Rosmalen as well, where he won his opening round encounter against Ricardas Berankis only to lose to Alex de Minaur. The fight that he put up against de Minaur, however, will give him some hope coming into this one where he starts off a 6/1 underdog to win.

Medvedev v Djere Prediction and Tip

This should be a straightforward one for Medvedev but it must be quickly added that he has been struggling to get going at times on grass. This could give Djere an opening which means we could be looking at a fighting win for the Russian.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Medvedev to win in straight sets: 1/2
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Games Handicap Djere +4.5: 5/6
