Nakashima Shrugs off Rosmalen Loss

After losing in the first round of the Rosmalen Open to Emil Ruusuvuori, Nakashima was forced to fight back yet again in this Halle opener against Mikael Ymer.

Ymer went on to grab the first set of the encounter before Nakashima rediscovered his rhythm and completed a scrappy win. He clinched his second round spot 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 in two hours and 35 minutes.

Nakashima looked to have started off perfectly with an early break of serve giving him a 3-1 lead in the opening set. Unfortunately for him, he then stumbled on his own serve in successive games, in turn allowing Ymer to close out the set.

In the second, it was Ymer who broke first but was broken right back. Nakashima then saved four break-points before breaking Ymer in the 10th game as the Swede served to stay in the set.

The decider went to serve till 5-5 even though Nakashima did have a match-point in the 10th game. The American then held on to his serve before breaking Ymer in the 12th to sweep into round two.

Bautista Agut Eases Past Vavassori

Bautista Agut was on court for just an hour and 15 minutes to win his first match on grass for the season and march into the second round of the competition at Halle.

The Spaniard broke his opponent once apiece in each of the two sets, faced no break-points in the entire match and served his way out of trouble each time he did face any issues to come through 6-3, 6-4.

Such was the clinical nature of the win for Bautista Agut that he lost a mere six points off his own serve spread across 10 games.

What will now be interesting to see is if Bautista Agut can make it two wins in a row, something he has been unable to do since reaching the fourth round at the Australian Open. He had featured in 11 tournaments since that time and the best he could manage was an opening win in five of them.

There were six opening defeats too which makes this a potentially exciting contest.
