Sloane Stephens v Ons Jabeur Head to Head
The two ladies have met only once on the tour and that meeting took place in the 2018 Kremlin Cup. Surprisingly, it was Jabeur who won that match, defeating Stephens 6-3, 6-2.
A Disappointing Start for the Two Players
Jabeur and Stephens are poles apart when it comes to individual form and winning experience. However, this season, they have been on a rather equal footing.
Both the ladies have lost five matches each already so far although, Stephens has the upper-hand with five wins while the Tunisian has only three. The American, who is currently the World No. 6, reached the fourth round in the Australian Open – her best run yet. As for her performance in other tournaments, couldn’t move past the early rounds.
In the Mexican Open and Indian Wells Open, she lost right in the second round to Beatriz Haddad Maia and Stefanie Voegele respectively.
Meanwhile, Jabeur hasn’t made it past the second round in any of the competitions so far. She gained most points in WTA Dubai when she lost in the second round to Elina Svitolina. As for her run in Indian Wells, she lost the opener to Misaki Doi.
However, Stephens has the Edge
Even though the American is struggling with her form right now, she is more than capable of turning it all around in Miami. Towards the end of the previous season, Stephens went through a series of early defeats on the tour before reaching the final in the year-end WTA Final.
Similarly, before she conquered the Miami Open, the 2017 US Open champion started her season on a rather mediocre note. After that terrific win in Miami, she moved on to win become the runner-up in French Open.
With Sloane, it is not about the consistency, as much as about finding the right form.
As for Jabeur, the 2018 Kremlin Cup has been her best performance on the tour. She made it to the final as a qualifier but ended up losing to Daria Kasatkina.
Sloane Stephens v Ons Jabeur Predictions & Tips
Stephens hasn’t been that sharp this season although, that may change when she begins her title defence in Miami. Jabeur will fancy her chances here, given that she has already defeated her opponent once in the past. While the American will start as the favourite, a possibility exists that this can very well go the other way too.
