Our 2023 ATP Eastbourne Predictions & Picks
Taylor Fritz is possibly the best grasscourt player in the 28-man field. With two titles on this surface, incidentally, both coming in Eastbourne, he is the strong favorite to make it a hat-trick of titles at Devonshire Park.
Fritz is 2-2 on grass coming to this year’s Eastbourne International, losing to Fucsovics in Halle and Mannarino at Queen’s – a reminder he is not invincible despite his greater pedigree, and there is a slew of grass-court threats here.
Alex de Minaur was a champion in Eastbourne two years ago, but it will be interesting to see if he’ll even commit to coming back having made it to the deep end at Queen’s this week (due to play the semifinal on Saturday).
Tommy Paul and Lorenzo Sonego are two big hitters who could give Fritz a run for this money. Paul, in particular, defeated Fritz in their only clash in 2023 in Acapulco.
Two unseeded players worth mentioning here are Brandon Nakashima and Emil Ruusuvuori. Nakashima seems to be finding his feet again after recovering from injury and he seems to have mastered the art of playing on grass (he won 10 matches on the surface last year).
As for Ruusuvuori, he’s reached a semifinal in one of the two tournaments he has played this month – a run that includes a straight-sets win over Jannik Sinner in Den Bosch.
- Outright Winner Tip: Taylor Fritz
- Outright Winner Dark Horse Tip: Emil Ruusuvuori
