Alexander Zverev v Alexander Bublik Head to Head

The pair have played each other three times before, and Bublik leads their head to head series by two matches to won.

The Kazakh won on the hard courts of Rotterdam in 2019, and in Montpellier last year.

However, it was Zverev who won their meeting on clay in Monte Carlo in April.

Plain Sailing for Zverev So Far

Twice a beaten finalist at Halle, in 2016, and 2017, Zverev is hoping to go one better this year and lift the trophy itself.

Certainly it has been relatively plain sailing so far, with three consecutive straight set victories, beginning with Dominic Thiem of Austria, and then Denis Shapovalov of Canada.

He was favoured to beat Nicolas Jarry of Chile, his quarter-final opponent, a man more at home on clay, and the match went much as expected.

The first set was largely dominated by serve, although Jarry was forced to save three break points in the sixth game. But, with a tie-break looming, Zverev stepped up his efforts and claimed the decisive break.

An early break put the German in control of the second set, although Jarry later had three break back points without being able to make any of them count.

Zverev claimed the subsequent win with his third match point.

Bublik Benefits from Italian Retirement

Bublik has already enjoyed a good week in Halle, beating the 2018 champion Borna Coric in straight sets in the first round, and then overcoming one of the in-form players on tour right now, Han-Lennard Struff, overcoming him in three rounds.

And that earned him a quarter-final tie with Jannik Sinner, the world number 9.

Serve dominated the first set up until the time that Sinner suddenly faulted and was broken for the first time. However, Bublik was unable to take advantage and immediately dropped his own serve.

However, as it turned out, it was just a temporary reprieve for the Italian, as another dropped serve handed the first set to Bublik.

In the second set, Bublik held serve and then broke Sinner again.

At that point, Sinner who had been carrying a knock, decided that the prudent course of action was to retire injured.

Zverev v Bublik Prediction and Tip

With the German crowd behind him, Zverev will start the favourite to reach his third Halle final. Bublik, though, will not make it easy for him, and any victory will be hard won.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Zverev to win: 4/9
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 23.5 games in the match: 13/17
