Alex de Minaur v Holger Rune Head to Head

This will be their third match as Rune leads 2-1. The most recent one in Acapulco this year was won by de Minaur.

de Minaur Cruising Through Queen’s

Alex de Minaur has been absolutely amazing in Queen’s this year. The Australian is known as a pretty good grass player having a 42-20 record so far in his career which is a lot of wins for a relatively young player. He’s won a trophy on grass and would likely enjoy another trip to a final.

To get there de Minaur will only need to beat a player he has already beaten this year. It was a very close match in Acapulco, a rather slow hard court which allowed the Speed Demon to frustrate Rune with his speed keeping the ball in play for much of that.

Grass plays quite a bit differently and it’s likely to favour the more aggressive player which generally is Rune. Even so, the experience is a major thing for de Minaur as he played many more matches than Rune and likely likes to play on the surface a bit more.

de Minaur looked more impressive this week than Rune beating some good players including Adrian Mannarino who is one of the better grass players among the lower ranked players.

Maiden Grass Semi-final for Rune

Holger Rune never won a match on grass before this event and he was able to win three of them this year. The Dane went 0-3 on grass last year but finally got his first wins this year beating some solid player en route to his maiden semi-final on grass.

The win over Maxime Cressy was a good one. He followed it up with a solid one over Ryan Peniston after which he outlasted Lorenzo Musetti despite falling behind 1-4 in the first set. The Dane is simply showing more familiarity with the surface which is half the battle.

The style he likes to play generally fits grass rather well as he loves to attack and doesn’t mind going forward to keep the points short. It wouldn’t be a huge shock if he ends up an excellent player on the surface in the future but for now there is still work to do.

A proper challenge will be this match against de Minaur and his win condition is the serve. If he manages to serve well he’ll have a chance.

de Minaur v Rune Prediction and Tip

I wouldn’t be shocked if this match went to three sets but I do think that de Minaur should have the upper hand due to his experience on the surface. He’s not favoured but I will back him to win.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: de Minaur to win: 1/1
