Parks On a Four-Match Losing Streak

After suffering back-to-back first round defeats in her first two grass court tournaments, Alycia Parks will be eager to get her first win of the season on the surface as she begins her campaign in Bad Homburg.

Parks doesn’t have a lot of experience playing on grass, having won just one main draw match at the tour level and that was in Berlin last year.

Parks had a great start to 2023, winning a first WTA singles title in the first week of February when she defeated Caroline Garcia in the final of the Lyon Open.

Since then, the 22-year-old has struggled for consistency and is currently on a four-match losing streak. The series of defeats began in the quarterfinal in Rabat, which was followed by first round exits from the French Open, Notingham Open and the Birmingham Classic.

Can she end the streak on grass?

Fernandez Has Lost Just Two First Round Matches This Season

Leylah Fernandez too has struggled to win matches consistently this season. Despite losing just two first round matches this season, she has not been able to have the same impact that she had in the last two years.

Fernandez was a quarterfinalist at the start of the season in Auckland and that was the only tour-level main draw tournament, where she won consecutive matches.

At the lower level she reached the semifinals at an ITF Madrid clay court tournament.

The 20-year-old Canadian, who was a finalist at the U.S. Open in 2020, has an overall record of 17-13 across levels this year.

This will be her first grass court appearance this season, she has a 1-2 record from her previous three main draw matches on grass. Can she make an early impression?

Parks v Fernandez Prediction and Tip

Both players have struggled in recent times, Fernandez has even seen a drastic drop in the rankings, falling 47 places since May to her current ranking of 96. However, she is more experienced than Parks at the tour level  and will be banking on that experience to begin on a winning note.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Fernandez to win: 1/2
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
