Nicolas Jarry v Mikael Ymer Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2019 Bastad Open and Jarry had won that clay court match in straight sets.

Jarry Coming off Halle Quarterfinal

In a season which has seen Jarry come of age thanks to his solidity on clay, he also showed what he is capable of on grass.

Now sure, Jarry isn’t the best on this surface but he looked to have taken the momentum that he had garnered on clay into his first appearance on grass for the season. That came at Halle where Jarry overcame Corentin Moutet in the opener and then completed the win of his career against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round.

That Jarry won in straight sets bore ample testimony to his growth as a tennis player having started the season ranked 154th in the world.

Jarry then lost to Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals but even that defeat came after a fighting showing. At no point did Zverev look like a far superior player and with a little more fortune the result could have been different.

Which is why Jarry could be a player to watch here as he takes to court for his opener in his second grass court competition of the season.

Ymer Struggles on Grass

Based on his performances on grass so far in his career, it’s fair to say it’s not Ymer’s most preferred surface. Overall, he has won just two main draw matches in the entirety of his career and when you add that to his showing this season, it’s not going to be the easiest match-up to begin for the Swede.

In fact, Ymer is on a four-match losing streak coming into this tournament which includes successive opening round defeats on grass.

After getting defaulted at the Lyon Open for his on-court behaviour, Ymer was done in by Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets at the French Open. He has since, lost to Tallon Griekspoor and Brandon Nakashima on the grass courts of Rosmalen and Halle.

Ymer enters this tournament knowing he needs to turn things around quickly as he looks to stall his ranking slide that has seen him fall to 63rd in the world. The trouble is he is now up against a player who has the exactly opposite confidence level coming into this tournament.

Jarry v Ymer Prediction and Tip

This should be a straightforward win for Jarry with the chances of the match going into the third looking highly unlikely.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Jarry to win: 1/2
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
