Angelique Kerber v Karolina Muchova Head to Head
The pair have never met before, competitively, on the WTA Tour.
Kerber Looking for Another Good Run
Kerber, the world number four, and Wimbledon champion, had a very good run in Indian Wells, reaching the final on Sunday before losing to Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu. She would have felt bit of a relief to have gone all that far after months of indifferent runs in various tournaments.
Feasibly there is a chance that the pair could soon have a rematch here in Florida, as they are both in the same side of the draw – but they need to get there first.
Historically, players that do well in Indian Wells tend to struggle in Miami because of the strain of playing that many matches against the top players in the world in tournaments back-to-back. Kerber will be hoping to buck that trend and her first match in this competition could be an indicator.
Muchova Battled through Qualifying to Get Here
For the 22-year old Czech woman, this will be her fourth match already in Florida, having had to play two qualifying rounds just to get into the main draw. She beat Vitalia Diatchenko and fellow Czech player Marie Bouzkova to progress, before seeing off the challenge of Japan’s Nao Hibino in her first round match on Thursday.
She is not expected to beat Kerber, so will be able to relax and anything she does gain from the match will be a bonus and that’s where players are at their most-dangerous best.
Kerber v Muchova Predictions & Tips
Kerber will start the overwhelming favourite at 4/11, whilst Muchova is priced at 28/11. This does not mean that Muchova has no chance though. She beat Garbine Muguruza at the US Open last year and, on her day, can cause a surprise. If Kerber is still tired from her efforts in California last week, and is not on her game, then the Czech could be ready to take advantage.
Tip: Kerber to win in straight sets: 10/11 (bet365)
