Jarry Made Halle Quarterfinals

Jarry is more renowned for his clay court tennis but that did not stop him from delivering one of his best showing outside of clay.

At Halle last year, Jarry made it through to the quarterfinal but more importantly he did that at the expense of Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round. He had earlier also defeated Corentin Moutet in the opener.

And while Jarry went down fighting to Alexander Zverev, he had done enough to get close to his three wins on grass last season. That also included a quarterfinal appearance in a grass court competition and a second round entry in Eastbourne.

Having climbed up to 28th in the world at the moment, Jarry had a bye in the first round here. Another win, therefore, will get him his second success grass quarterfinal and with an opponent with no known efficiency on grass up against him that seems to be a solid possibility.

Barrere Shocks Ruusuvuori

Neither was Barrere a favourite coming into his first round match against Emil Ruusuvuori nor did anyone think he had any chance left when he lost his first set to his Finnish opponent.

More than two and a quarter of an hour later, Barrere had turned things around drastically and gone on to win the next two sets in tie-breakers to clinch the second round berth.

Barrere, who had registered a win over Oscar Otte in the first round at the Stuttgart Open before going down to Lorenzo Musetti and Stefanos Tsitsipas in successive matches, came into this match at 9/5 odds to overcome his opponent.

He did that with a lot of grit with no Ruusuvuori serves broken and having faced seven break-points of his own.

The question is if Barrere can now double down and come up with a repeat showing in this second round match as well?

Jarry v Barrere Prediction and Tip

Jarry can be expected to come through but with a bit of Barrere fight in the offing as well.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Jarry to win: 1/2
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
