Kecmanovic Finally Wins a Match

Miomir Kecmanovic was winless on grass this year losing both previous matches he played. The Serbian was never known as a spectacular grass player as he has a record of 11-13 on the surface. He’s had a rather lacklustre season with fewer wins than losses (16-17).

His best tennis always comes on hard courts but even there Kecmanovic didn’t really manage anything spectacular. His level has generally been quite a bit lower than last year and it’s impacted his confidence which has also seen better days.

Before the win over Wu Yibing, Kecmanovic had lost four matches in a row so don’t expect him to suddenly turn a corner. He snapped the losing streak but he’s far from his best.

He will need to return well if hopes to win this match and be really stable from the baseline. Vukic is a rather strong baseliner so you will need to play up to his consistency if you want to beat him. The serve, as always, is very important on grass.

Vukic Stuns Nakashima

Now you might think that overall this match wasn’t a huge surprise but to me it was. Brandon Nakashima is your typical American player with a really strong serve, flat shots which work well on grass and rather solid hands on the net.

Yet, Vukic was able to counter that well and squeeze out a win in three sets. The Australian is familiar with grass having played 14 matches on it so far and winning 8 of those. It’s not his best surface but it works well for him because he too has a strong serve and flat strokes.

The year so far has been spectacular with 37 wins already and 19 losses. It’s been so good that he made his way to the top 100 which makes this win less of an upset.

However, if you look at their pedigree and how tricky Nakashima can be on grass, then it’s a rather big upset. That confidence should help him push Kecmanovic quite a bit.

Kecmanovic v Vukic Prediction and Tip

If you’re feeling really bold you might try Vukic here because I do think he’s a better fit overall than Kecmanovic on grass. He’s played better this year so back him to take a set or win.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Vukic to win: 6/4
