Francisco Cerundolo v Marc-Andrea Huesler Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came in Antwerp in 2022 and it was Cerundolo who had come back from a set down to win that.

Cerundolo Coming off Second Round Loss at Queen’s

In what was his first tournament on grass for this season, Cerundolo was beaten in the second round at the Queen’s Club Championships last week.

More proficient on grass, Cerundolo hasn’t had much experience on grass and that was on show in that tournament. After having edged out Tommy Paul in a gruelling three-setter, Cerundolo went down in straight sets to Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 16.

The good news for Cerundolo is he managed to overcome Paul, a player who is ranked 17th in the world and has done well over the course of the season. That bit of early success should spur the Argentine on, even on this surface and despite that Dimitrov defeat.

What Cerundolo will hope for is to double that victory count now in this second round match after having gotten himself an opening bye.

Huesler Tames Peniston

Huesler has a solid clay court record too but he has shown he can wing it on grass too. At least against players who aren’t of the highest quality.

Maxime Cressy hasn’t been in the best of touches and Huesler took full advantage of that in their first round match at the Rosmalen Open last week. Rinky Hijikata ended Huesler’s stay in that tournament there.

Here in Eastbourne, he was an easy winner in the qualifiers to make the opening round where he faced local lad Ryan Peniston. And while there wasn’t much to choose between the two – Huesler was 5/6 to win it – he came through in a match lasting an hour and 19 minutes.

Huesler won 6-3, 6-2 with three breaks of serves having saved two of his own serve. His solid first serve earned him 89% of the points while he got the better of his opponent’s second serve on 16 of the 26 points.

Can he now put up a fight against Cerundolo?

Cerundolo v Huesler Prediction and Tip

Cerundolo is 8/11 to win this and that’s about as close as expect this match to be too. Huesler’s experience should help him and if you are looking to take a contrarian view, this could be a good one to do.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Huesler to win a set: 2/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 23.5 games in the match: 1/1
