Wolf Eases Past Etcheverry
There was a bit of a fight from Tomas Etcheverry in the second set but it was a case of too little, too late as Wolf made it past him to enter the second round in Eastbourne.
Having earlier needed to make it through the qualifiers to enter the Queen’s Club competition last week, Wolf was a direct entrant here and eased to a 6-2, 6-4 win over Etcheverry.
Two breaks of serves in the first set put Wolf in the driver’s seat and when he broke Etcheverry yet again in the third game of the second the writing was on the wall. Etcheverry did manage to hold on to his serve from that point onward but could not force a single break-point.
This follows a first round exit at Queen’s for Wolf where he was beaten by Ben Shelton in the first round after having made the main draw as a lucky loser. A win here will help him regain some of his confidence going into Wimbledon.

Van Assche Scrapes Past Loffhagen
Van Assche is in his first season of playing grass court competitions having begun with a qualifier at the Halle Open last week. He had been beaten in the very first match he played there but has come back well in his second tournament here in Eastbourne.
Needing to make it through the qualifiers at this tournament too, Van Assche had overcome Sasi Kumar Mukund and Borna Gojo to make the main draw.
And in the first round, Van Assche was pushed to the corner by George Loffhagen before coming through.
In a match that lasted nearly three hours, Van Assche registered the first grass court main draw win of his career by coming back from a set and 3-5 down. He also faced a match-point in the second set and was down a break in the third but fought back both times to clinch the victory.
