Zhang Defeats Seventh Seed
Two years ago, Zhang became the first Chinese man to appear in the main draw of Wimbledon in the modern era.
He fell at the first round that time, and did not get beyond the second round of qualifying last year, but, if his first round victory in Eastbourne against the Italian Lorenzo Sonego, the world number 40, and number seven seed, is any guide, he can expect better fortune next week, given a favourable draw.
The match began with both men dropping serve, but Sonego broke again and had a chance to serve for the set.
It was Zhang, instead who hit back to level, and then he had a further break point.
He could not take it, and then Sonego had three set points without being able to convert any of them. It was Zhang who proved the more consistent in the subsequent tie-break.
The early part of the second set was dominated by serve, until Zhang broke Sonego to love.
Sonego had two break points back, could not take them, and it was the Chinese who sealed the win with his first match point.

Cressy Beats Colombian Qualifier
Having lost both his previous two matches on grass this year, beaten in the first round of both Rosmalen and the Queen’s Club, Cressy would have been keen to finally get off the mark.
And if he could have hand-picked his opponent in Eastbourne, he could scarcely have got a better draw than the Colombian qualifier, Daniel Elahi Galan, the world number 84, and a man much more at home on clay.
Not that was obvious in a first set largely dominated by clay, until Galan earned himself two break points.
His failure to convert wither of them soon came back to haunt him as he dropped his own serve next game, enabling Cressy to serve out for the set.
Galan had an early break opportunity at the start of the second set, and his inability to convert it seemed to have cost him dear when he was broken again. This time, though, the Colombian responded with a break of his own, but parity was only fleeting, as he immediately dropped his own serve again.
Given the chance to serve out, Cressy did not need to be asked twice.
Zhang v Cressy Prediction and Tip
There is almost nothing to separate these two on paper or in terms of world rankings. Cressy, though, may start the marginal favourite by virtue of the fact that he has won a match at Wimbledon before, something Zhang is yet to do.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Cressy to win: 1/2
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 23.5 games in the match: 5/4
