Siniakova Enjoying a Good Run
Doubles number one Katerina Siniakova is coming off a decent doubles result. Last week in Berlin, she was the runner-up with Marketa Vondrousova.
That run gave her some much-needed momentum on grass – the result of which is evident this week in Bad Homburg.
A runner-up here in 2021, Siniakova looks well on the path to repeating the feat again – and possibly going the distance this time. She is yet to drop a set, having beaten the likes of Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Evgeniya Rodina. Her service game has also improved with time; against Rodina, she won 78% of the points behind the first serve.
Katerina had to take things slow of late on account of fitness. After the Miami Open, she next featured in the French Open and then the German Open – losing in round one in both instances. The 27-year-old is now 10-9 on the singles tour and 17-3 on doubles.
The current #52 is well-experienced, and her immaculate doubles pedigree ought to help her against Samsonova.

Samsonova Survives Noskova Scare
Russia’s Liudmila Samsonova found herself in a demanding match against Linda Noskova. Battling for two and a half hours, she won the match 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-3.
In the preceding match, Samsonova had dismissed Viktoriya Tomova 6-1, 6-4.
Historically, the 24-year-old has done well on grass. While last year she was 1-3, in 2021, she was 10-1. Her highlights include winning the German Open then and later reaching round four at Wimbledon.
Samsonova’s current season can be summarised in the form of 16 wins and 14 losses. Her highlight was the runner-up feat in Abu Dhabi, round four in Madrid, and quarterfinal in the Libema Open.
Liudmila’s last tournament was the Berlin Open, where she fell to Ekaterina Alexandrova in the opener.
Samsonova v Siniakova Prediction and Tip
Both players have had a mixed season but objectively speaking, Samsonova has the odds in her favour. She has a good singles pedigree and experience, having beaten many top players in her career.
Siniakova can counter that with her doubles pedigree but her recent fitness woes may make things tricky.
Tips:
- Low-Risk Tip: Samsonova to win: 4/5
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
