Ruud’s Struggled at Wimbledon
Grass has never been Ruud’s cup of tea. For someone who has loved his time on clay, Ruud looked to have found a way to win in hardcourt competitions as well, having reached the final of the US Open last year and winning the San Diego Open in 2021 but grass court success has eluded him so far.
In fact for a player who reached his career-high ranking of world number two in the world last year, Ruud has won just three grass court matches in his career. And only one at Wimbledon when he defeated Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the first round of this tournament last year.
He would go on to lose to Ugo Humbert in the second.
Which is why, rather strangely, Ruud’s not played any grass court competitions coming into Wimbledon this season. Ruud will participate in the Hurlingham Exhibition competition but it doesn’t make it any less surprising he chose to opt out of any ATP competitions.
Which is why, things might not be as straightforward as Ruud takes to the grass courts for his opener here.

Lokoli Featuring for the First Time on Grass in 2023
More known for his performances at the lower circuit, Lokoli has struggled on the ATP tour as his career-best ranking of 167th in the world suggests.
What’s interesting to note is Lokoli had entered the 2023 season having never played on grass before this season.
He took to court at the Nottingham Challenger where he made it through the qualifiers as a lucky loser before crashing out of the tournament in the first round itself. At Ilkley he qualified by winning both his rounds but again, fell in the opener before needing to come through the qualifiers here at Wimbledon.
While Lokoli was a favourite in the first two qualifiers, he started out a 1/1 underdog in the third qualifying round against Michael Mmoh and needed five sets to scrape through to a win.
He might not have it too easy in round one either despite his opponent’s struggles at Wimbledon.
Ruud v Lokoli Prediction and Tip
Ruud might not have had a good time in this competition but we can expect him to ease his way through here.

- Low Risk Tip: Under 27.5 games in the match: 5/6
