Alcaraz Starts off as a Djokovic Challenger
That Alcaraz starts off at Wimbledon on the back of a win-loss record of 40-4 for the season and he hasn’t even reached the final of a Grand Slam in 2023 could be a tad frustrating for the world number one. That, however, could also be a precursor of things to come.
Alcaraz has shown he is capable of a lot more than just that solitary Grand Slam title he has under his belt. Five titles this season underline that statement, especially given that two of those have been Masters 1000 wins and they have been spread across all the three surfaces.
More recently, Alcaraz featured in his only grass court competition of the year that came at the Queen’s Club Championships and he went on to win the title.
Sure, he didn’t face any challenge from any of the top-10 players but other than dropping a set in the very first round of that competition, Alcaraz’s path to the title win was a very straightforward one.
Add that to the fact he defeated Jiri Lehecka, Grigor Dimitrov, Sebastian Korda and Alex de Minaur on his way to the tournament win and you are looking at someone who can challenge Djokovic for the title here. A solid start in the first round here will go a long way in calming his nerves down too.

Chardy Yet to Win a Match Since January
A former world number 25, Chardy has fallen off the cliff as far as his ranking is concerned and will start off as a 534th-ranked player in this competition.
That has been down to his absence from competitive tennis in 2023 and thanks to the Frenchman playing just five matches all of this season. More vitally, he has won just one and none in his last four.
Chardy did not take to court for three months after the Australian Open following which he has featured in Madrid, Rome and the Queen’s Club competitions. He is yet to win a set since his return.
And now facing up to a player who is looking to add to his maiden Grand Slam title win from late last season, it looks like Chardy will need to look at somewhere else for his first win at the highest level since January 2023.
