Andrey Rublev v Max Purcell Head to Head

Both of their previous meetings have come in the qualifiers of ATP tournaments including one at Eastbourne in 2019. Rublev leads 2-0.

Rublev Finalist at Halle

Rublev’s consistency has been his trademark and it has continued this season in which he has managed to make it to the final of events on all the three surfaces. He won of the four times he did enter the final as well.

The Russian kick-started his season with a title-deciding appearance at the ATP Dubai where it was Daniil Medvedev who ended his run.

He then turned his attention to clay where Rublev was a finalist at the Banja Luka Open and the Monte-Carlo Masters with the world number seven winning the latter. It was his maiden Masters 1000 title victory.

And in the only tournament that Rublev played on grass two weeks before Wimbledon, he made it to the final too. It came at Halle and Rublev would be a tad disappointed not to have won it given it came against Alexander Bublik who had gone into the final at 13/10 odds.

Can he now better his best showing at Wimbledon which came in 2021 when he had made the fourth round here?

Purcell Coming off Mallorca Loss

In the only tournament that Purcell played on grass this season, he lost to Feliciano Lopez in the first round of the Mallorca Open last week. That would have been a bitter pill to swallow for the Aussie who had been showing great signs on the lower circuit all season.

That included three title wins, all of which came on the Challenger circuit and in hardcourt competitions.

It’s also an indicator of Purcell’s performances on hardcourt surfaces, which are in a different league to other surfaces. And it’s those results that have taken him to 62nd in the world, his career-best ranking so far.

What will be interesting to see is if Purcell can take that step up in a tournament where he has never won a round. Defeating Rublev looks unlikely, especially given his opponent’s grass form but can he achieve enough to gain some confidence for the times to follow?

Rublev v Purcell Prediction and Tip

Rublev is a 1/14 favourite but we believe Purcell could make it difficult for the Russian. Might even win a set here.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 32. games in the match: 4/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Purcell to win a set: 11/10
