Kecmanovic and Barrere have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Kecmanovic Wins Successive Matches after a While

It was in April this year that Kecmanovic had last won two back to back matches. After a first round bye on the clay courts of Banja Luka, he had made it through to the semifinal with successive wins.

Since then, Kecmanovic has featured in six tournaments and won a total of one match only. Two of these competitions came on grass over the past two weeks and Kecmanovic was ousted in the first round at both, by Cameron Norrie and Milos Raonic.

Here, he seems to have turned things around.

In the first round, Kecmanovic shrugged off a fighting opening set tie-breaker to defeat Wu Yibing in straight sets. And then against Aleksandar Vukic he repeated something similar in the second round, defeating him 7-6 (6), 6-4.

In a match lasting an hour and 25 minutes, Kecmanovic saved a set-point in the first set before overcoming an early break of serve against him in the second to carve out the win. Can he now make it a rare hattrick of wins?

Barrere Makes it Two Shocks in a Row

After having won just one match on grass in his career before the start of this season, Barrere wasn’t quite the favourite when he doubled that count against Oscar Otte two weeks ago in Stuttgart.

He lost his second round match there soon after and then fell in his opener at the Halle Open too.

Which is why it wasn’t a surprise when he started off a 9/5 underdog in his opener here in Eastbourne against Emil Ruusuvuori. Barrere overturned the odds on their head after losing the first set in his opener as he went on to clinch the next two in tie-breakers.

And then in the second round, Barrere made it two upset wins in succession when he defeated the in-form Nicolas Jarry in three sets too. He won 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to find himself in the quarterfinal of an event for just the second time this season.

Given how Kecmanovic has played in the recent past, Barrere will think he has a chance here.

Kecmanovic v Barrere Prediction and Tip

While Kecmanovic starts off a 4/6 favourite we reckon Barrere cannot be ignored and nor can his fighting capabilities. Expect him to come up with something special.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Barrere to win a set: 1/2
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
