Gracheva Knocks Out Errani
Eight seed Varvara Gracheva marched into the quarterfinal in Bad Homburg with a straight sets win over Sara Errani in the second round on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old Russian-born French citizen saved 2 of 4 break points and converted 5 of 9 to beat the Italian world no. 80, 6-2, 7-5.
Gracheva had also won her first round match in straight sets, beating Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian 6-2, 6-1.
The two wins are the world no. 43’s first two wins on grass in her career. She had lost in the opening round match in Berlin last week and had also suffered defeats in her previous two grass court matches.
Gracheva, who was a finalist in Austin this year, will be playing in her third quarterfinal of the season on Thursday.

Bronzetti Rebounds to Beat Sherif
Lucia Bronzetti rebounded from a set down to beat fourth seed Mayar Sherif in the second round on Wednesday.
The Italian was outplayed by the Egyptian in the first set, but she clawed her way back in the second set, edging out Sherif in the tiebreak to force the decider.
Bronzetti took charge of the third set and broke Sherif twice to win the match 1-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.
Ranked no. 65th in the world, the 24-year-old had won her opening round match against Julia Grabher 6-4, 6-1.
This is the second tour-level quarterfinal that Bronzetti will be featuring in this year. She had won her maiden WTA title in Rabat this year.
Gracheva v Bronzetti Prediction and Tip
This is a tough one to call and may go the distance. Both are inexperienced on grass; but with two wins from two matches in Bad Homburg they both will be confident going into the quarterfinals.
Expect a three-setter with Gracheva, who has been the better of the two on the tour this year, to advance.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Gracheva to win: 4/5
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
