There have been three previous meetings between these two players and Kvitova has won every single time. This includes one at the 2022 Wimbledon at this very stage.

Kvitova Solid Again after Injury Layoff

Kvitova had made a sterling start to the season as she went on to make the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells Open and then defeated Elena Rybakina to lift the Miami Open title.

She did suffer a foot injury that kept her away from a few tournaments before the Madrid Open. And Kvitova then opted out of the Italian Open too to allow her injured foot to heal properly.

That did not work out too well for Kvitova at the French Open where she fell to Elisabetta Cocciaretto in her opener but she has done well on her return to grass. The world number nine, who is also a former Wimbledon winner, entered this year’s grass court swing on the back of 30 career titles on the women’s circuit.

And a week into it, Kvitova eased past Donna Vekic to add to that tally and make it 31. It was also her sixth title on grass.

Kvitova will start off as one of the dark horses at this year’s Wimbledon given the open nature of the women’s draw on this surface.

Paolini Hasn’t Done Much on Grass

Despite having played grass court tennis since 2017, Paolini’s record on this surface has been anything but spectacular. In fact for player who has risen to a career-best ranking of 42nd in the world, it’s a surprise that Paolini hasn’t won a single main draw match on grass at the highest level.

In fact her only win in a main draw encounter has come on the ITF circuit and that has been the end of that – it’s been just one victory over these five years of grass court tennis for Paolini.

Earlier this month, Paolini featured in two grass competitions – at the Birmingham Open and Eastbourne International – and lost in the first round at both.

Sure, Magda Linette and Ons Jabeur, her opponents in those matches are two very strong players but it’s not like Kvitova will be any less. And that’s also why Paolini starts off a huge second-favourite in this one.

Kvitova v Paolini Prediction and Tip

Kvitova might have taken three sets to get past Paolini last year here but this time around she will start a favourite to win in two. Backing that result.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Kvitova to win in straight sets: 4/11
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 19.5 games in the match: 8/11
