Keys Moves Past Martic
Madison Keys is set to play in her first WTA semifinal of the 2023 season.
She made it this far after beating Petra Martic 6-4, 6-1 in 81 minutes; the match saw American win 77% of the points behind the first serve, along with four break points. In the preceding matches in Eastbourne this week, she beat Xiyu Wang and Tereza Martincova in straight sets.
Now ranked World No. 25, Madison last played in Paris Slam, where she fell to Kayla Day (then #138) in round two in three sets.
Such has been the 2023 season for the American, brimming with ups and downs (19-8 so far). That said, Keys has had her moments – a title run in the United Cup and quarterfinals in Dubai and Charleston.
She has some history in Eastbourne as well; she was a champion here in 2014. The following season Madison was a quarterfinalist in Wimbledon, and since then, she has reached only the round four at SW 19 just twice – most recently in 2021.

Gauff Beats Pegula
Coco Gauff is yet to lose a set in the competition this week. She continued that form against her doubles partner Jessica Pegula too. In just an hour and 10 minutes, the teenager won 6-3, 6-3, to make it to her third semifinal of the year.
In the opening match, she upset Bernarda Pera 6-3, 6-2 and followed it with a 6-1, 6-1 rout of Jodie Burrage.
Now ranked #7 (#4 in doubles), the teenager last played in Berlin, where she fell to Ekaterina Alexandrova in round two.
Before that, however, Gauff was a quarterfinalist in the French Open, Indian Wells, and WTA Doha. A champion in ASB Classic and a semi-finalist in Dubai, Coco has had a spectacular year which now puts her at 27-10.
This is, of course, over and beyond her double exploits with Pegula – which includes two titles and two runner-up feats in Madrid and Rome.
On grass, Gauff has made it to the round of 16 twice in Wimbledon.
Keys v Gauff Prediction and Tip
Keys has the experience, but as Gauff has shown, she is not afraid to go head-to-head with the established giants. Expect another entertaining affair where Gauff will start as the favourite due to her superior season and overall form.
Tips:
- Low-Risk Tip: Gauff to win: 3/5
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
