Tommy Paul reached his third tour-level semifinal of the year with a tough three-set win over J.J. Wolf on Thursday.

Ranked no. 17th in the world, Paul struck 18 aces and 55 winners to beat the world no. 46, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2) in a two hour and 19 minute contest.

The American, who had defeated Sebastian Baez 6-1, 7-6 (9-7) in the second round, saved 3 of 6 break points and converted 3 of 9 during the match.

In his two previous semifinal appearances this season, Paul reached his maiden Grand Slam semifinal at the Australian Open, was a finalist in Acapulco.

He will now be aiming to reach his third career final on Friday, having won his only title in Stockholm in 2021.

The 26-year-old, who was a quarterfinalist in Eastbourne last year, improved his season record to 21-13 on the tour and 26-14 across levels. He had also reached the final of the Aix-en-Provence Challenger on clay.

World no. 57 Gregoire Barrere moved into his first ATP semifinal as he knocked out Miormir Kecmanovic in the quarterfinal on Thursday.

3-5 up in the first set, Kecmanovic had a chance to serve out the opening set, but the Frenchman refused to give up and he pulled back a break for the second time in the set to stay in the contest. He then won three more games in a row to take the first set.

In the second, the Frenchman had a chance to close out the set at 5-3, but the Serb broke back to stay in the match. However, it was Barrere who dominated the ensuing tiebreak to win the match 7-5, 7-6 (7-2).

Barrere had begun his campaign with a come-from-behind win over Emil Ruusuvuori. He then took down fifth seed Nicolás Jarry in a three-set second round contest.
