Norrie Coming off Queen’s Quarters
With a win-loss record of 6-2 and 6-3 on grass over the past couple of seasons, the 2022 Wimbledon semifinalist Norrie had entered this year’s grass swing with a lot of confidence.
And he looked to have started off well too, overcoming Miomir Kecmanovic and Jordan Thompson in the first two rounds of the Queen’s Club Championships earlier this month.
This was, however, followed by a straight-set loss at the hands of Sebastian Korda in the quarterfinal, a shock result almost for the Brit.
Norrie opted not to feature in any ATP tournament after that but did take part in the Hurlingham Exhibition where he edged out Frances Tiafoe in three sets.
Earlier this season, Norrie had begun well with a title win at the Rio Open where he defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the final. He had followed it up with a quarterfinal appearance at the Indian Wells Masters but since then hasn’t won three matches in a row.
He would like to overturn that record.

Machac Fortunate to Make it Through the Qualifiers
After having scraped through two qualifying rounds, it looked like Machac’s stay at Wimbledon was about to get over when he lost the first set of his third qualifier against Lucas Pouille. Fortunately for him Pouille was forced to retire from the contest because of fitness concerns and Machac made it through to the main draw.
This will be the first time that Machac will be featuring at Wimbledon, having made one other attempt in 2021 but losing in the third qualifier.
Machac’s overall record this season has been a decent one at the lower levels, with the Czech 22-year-old having reached the semifinal of two Challenger tournaments. He made the final at one of those but it must be quickly added those came on clay.
Which is not to say that Machac doesn’t do well on the faster hardcourts, with all of his eight lower level titles having come indoors or outdoors on that surface.
That should hold him in a good stead but will that be enough against Norrie?
