Is Korda Really a Favourite?
It was a bit of a shocking statement from Korda when he said he felt like he was one of the favourites at Wimbledon 2023. He back-tracked on it later but it’s worth mentioning that bet365 has installed Korda as the ninth-favourite to clinch this title this year.
Not too bad for someone who is ranked 25th in the world and has a 12-6 win-loss record for the season. Not to mention for someone who has barely played any tennis since making the Australian Open quarterfinal earlier this year because of fitness concerns.
The good news for Korda is he enters Wimbledon 2023 on the back of a semifinal appearance at the Queen’s competition last week.
And it wasn’t a flash in the pan either, with Korda registering wins over Dan Evans, Frances Tiafoe and Cameron Norrie on his way to the last four. It took the might of Carlos Alcaraz to get the better of Korda in the semifinal.
Can he take off at Wimbledon now?

Vesely Enters on a Protected Ranking
Vesely comes into this year’s Wimbledon with a protected ranking after having been out of action for nearly eight months since last season.
He featured at the US Open in 2022 where he was beaten in straight sets by Dan Evans and from that point he opted out of the circuit. This year, it was only in April that he finally came back, featuring on the Challenger circuit.
A couple of wins at the Ostrava Challenger on clay took him to the quarterfinal but he hasn’t won anything after that.
In the four tournaments since, Vesely was knocked out in the first round at three and didn’t even make it past the qualifiers at the Mallorca Open on grass.
Vesely’s overall record on grass isn’t too bad and that can also be seen from the fact his best Grand Slam performance has come at Wimbledon. He had made the fourth round here in 2016 and 2018 and since then he has managed to get something under his belt.
Can he pose a threat to “one of the pre-tournament favourites”?
Korda v Vesely Prediction and Tip
Unsurprisingly, Korda is a heavy favourite here but he could well face a bit of a challenge if he takes this lightly.
Tips:
- Moderate Risk Tip: Korda to win AND Both players to win a set: 6/5
