Matteo Berrettini v Lorenzo Sonego Head to Head
Berrettini and Sonego played four times. Berrettini leads 3-1 as Sonego won the most recent one.

Berrettini’s Health In Doubt
Matteo Berrettini played in the Wimbledon final two years ago but the Italian’s form is far from that level. He was in spectacular form last year as well but missed the event because of an illness. This year will see him enter Wimbledon with the worst form he had in years and it’s largely down to injury woes.
The Italian hasn’t played much this year due to injury problems which prevented him from playing a lot of matches. He only played 17 so far posting a 9-8 record overall losing the only match on grass he played. Interestingly it was a match against Sonego in Stuttgart and it was an easy win for Sonego.
Berrettini left the court in tears admitting that he’s still plagued with physical issues withdrawing from the next events he had lined up. It unclear whether Berretini is even fit to play but he’s likely going to play. He’s certainly not 100 % which makes this a very tough matchup to predict.
His best should beat Sonego easily as the H2H proves but he’s not at his best.

Sonego Eyes Upset
Lorenzo Soneog defeated Matteo Berrettini only once so far and it happened recently at the Stuttgart Open. He’s a pretty fair grass player because he has a very attacking game that works well on the surface. His win condition in any match is his serve. If he serves well then he’s tough to beat but if he doesn’t he’s very beatable.
The biggest asset in this matchup is the status of Berrettini which is unknown. It’s very likely that Sonego will be the more physically fit played which should bode well for the match if it goes long. Whatever happens and whether the match goes ahead or not, Sonego will need to play close to his best to win.
The serve needs to be on a good level to limit what Berrettini can do. He will need to find a way to deal with Berrettini’s slice and it’s given him problems in the past.
The recent win over the hampered Berrettini is the only one and it comes from the fact that generally Matteo is the better player and knows how to exploit the weaknesses of Sonego.
Berrettini v Sonego Prediction and Tip
It’s a tough one to predict because Berrettini should win this one but I can’t back him with his status unknown. Sonego is good value.
Tips:
- Moderate Risk Tip: Sonego to win match: 8/11
