Azarenka Making Her 15th Appearance
Victoria Azarenka will be making her 15th appearance at Wimbledon.
The Belarusian had made it to the semifinals twice, in 2011 and 2012, and was a quarterfinalist in 2009 and 2015. But the former no. 1 has lost early in most of her recent appearances.
With Belarusians not allowed in the tournament last year, Azarenka’s last appearance was in 2021, when she went down in the second round to Sorana Cirstea.
A former no.1, Azarenka is a two-time Grand Slam champion, having won both those titles at the Australian Open. She also has reached the U.S. Open finals thrice in her career.
A 21-time champion from 41 finals, Azarenka has had very little success on grass and a 0-1 record in grass court finals is a reflection of that.
Azarenka had made it to the semifinals at the Australian Open this year, but has been quiet since then, struggling to win consecutive matches in most of the tournaments.

Last year, Yue Yuan had found a place in the main draw as a lucky loser, but this year she has qualified for the tournament by winning all three of her qualifying round matches.
Yue had lost to Amanda Anisimova in the first round of her Wimbledon debut in 2022. Can she pull off a surprise win in the first round this year?
Given the opponent that seems to be an unlikely outcome. But the 24-year-old was extremely impressive during the qualifying rounds.
Yue ousted Bibiane Schoofs 6-2, 6-0 in the first round and then defeated Yuriko Miyazaki 6-3, 6-4 in the second qualifying round.
She had a tough final qualifier, but bounced back after losing the first set to beat Brenda Fruhvirtova 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Yue is 20-15 across levels this year, and she is 5-2 on grass having made the quarterfinals in the ITF Gaiba.
She reached a final at an ITF in Mexico City and was a quarterfinalist in two other ITF tournaments.
The world no. 106 also has previous grand slam experience and she had made it to the third round at U.S. Open last year.
Azarenka v Yue Prediction and Tip
Azarenka is vastly experienced and that makes her a huge favourite in this contest. Expect her to ease into the next round.
